The noise may start small, but it can get loud really quickly, and take over almost every aspect of your life before you even realize it.
Food noise isn’t just not being able to decide what to have for dinner. It’s being constantly consumed by thoughts about what to eat, how much to eat, when you can eat, if you ate too much, etc.
So much so that it starts to distract you from being truly present in the moment.
For me, sometimes I didn’t even know what I was thinking about. It was just this constant noise in my brain, always revolving around food and how much of it I “deserved.”
I couldn’t enjoy anything else. I lost so many moments because I wasn’t even paying attention to what was happening around me.
I was consumed.
And if you let it,
it can take over your entire life.
But not if I can help it.
For the noise to quiet, the absolute most important step is to eat enough.
You have to fuel your body properly, or it will never stop communicating that it needs more consistently.
Even if you are at a “healthy” weight, if you are not getting adequate fuel, that noise will continue until you listen to it.
You need to eat throughout the day, not starve yourself until 9pm.
And every meal needs to include all macros. I guarantee you, if you skip carbs, you will not feel fully satisfied, and your brain will communicate that through food noise.
I didn’t believe this (or didn’t want to) during recovery, but I promise you, once I started including carbs, protein, and fats in every meal, it finally felt like there was peace in my mind.
It's not just about eating enough though. It's about eating what you want.
You need to find a balance between foods you enjoy and foods your body needs. The more you restrict, the more your body will ask for it.
You can find peace, and you will gain your life back.
